Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after I contact Valeo Well-Being?
This varies a bit depending on which of our practitioners you’re seeing. We all offer a free consultation option for people who want to connect first to get a better idea about fit. If you decide you want to book, either our admin or your practitioner will help book a time that works best for you.
I’m feeling nervous about my first appointment. Any quick tips on how to help me pre-appointment?
You’ve already done the hardest part—reaching out. We are here to help you in a nonjudgmental, safe space. It’s okay to be nervous. If you are nervous because you may feel embarrassed or ashamed, remember that your experience is totally human and, although your experience is unique to you, there are others who have shared similar struggles. This is a vulnerable experience, but helping people with vulnerability is what we do. Finally, focus on what you hope to gain from working with us – it will be worth it.
Should I do anything else to prepare?
All you have to do is show up. If you have an idea about what you want to get from working with us, that’s great, but we can help you explore your thoughts and refine your ideas when we meet.
What can I expect from my consultation?
Our consultation is your first opportunity to be heard, share your hopes for what you’d like to address, and ask questions that might help us determine whether we’re a good fit. If you’re not sure what to ask, that’s okay. Your practitioner will tell you more about what to expect from working together. Ultimately it is a relationship, and you will get a sense (like any other relationship) if it is a good fit just from talking.
What if we’re not a fit?
Not a big deal – no offense taken. Just as in any other part of life, sometimes people just don’t click. Alternatively, you may be looking for something specific we don’t offer. Hopefully, we can help direct you to someone who might be a better fit. Research has demonstrated that the “therapeutic alliance” (also “working alliance”) or fit is a strong predictor of change above and beyond the approach to therapy, so we want to make sure that you find the right one.
Is online therapy still as effective as offline?
The short answer is yes, it is. While it might not be in person, it is still face-to-face. Research supports that we can still develop a strong therapeutic alliance despite not being in the same room. In fact, some people might find it easier to attend therapy online. You can be at home or in another place you feel comfortable, it removes the pressure you may feel from interacting in person, and it can be more convenient than having to go to an office.
Can I use my insurance?
We can directly bill many insurance companies. Contact us for more info.
