Getting Started
Your First Step with Valeo
Reaching out for support is not always easy. Whether you’ve been thinking about it for months or found us today because life has been feeling more difficult lately, taking this first step can bring up feelings like excitement, uncertainty, hope, nervousness, or all of the above. You may have a clear idea of what you would like support with, or you may simply know that something is not working and want a space to explore it. Whatever brings you here, you are welcome at Valeo.
Valeo offers compassionate, interdisciplinary support. We believe meaningful care begins by listening. Our team of psychologists, dietitians, and movement specialists is here to help you find a practitioner and approach that feel right for you.
A consultation is a chance to connect. You can share a little about what brings you to Valeo, ask any questions you may have, and get a feel for whether working with a particular practitioner feels right for you. You do not need to have everything figured out before you reach out. This conversation can be a starting point. There is no pressure or obligation to book ongoing appointments.
After your consultation, if you decide you would like to move forward, your practitioner or our administrative team will help you book an appointment at a time that works for you.
Care That Works Together
Collaborative, Interdisciplinary care
Valeo brings together psychologists, movement and exercise specialists, and a dietitian within one virtual practice. By offering multiple services within the same practice, your care can be more coordinated when it makes sense for your goals. This means you can access different kinds of support without having to start from scratch or search for separate providers in multiple places.
Your care can begin with the practitioner or service that feels most relevant to you. If you and your practitioner find that another type of support may be helpful, Valeo can help you explore options within the practice. Our interdisciplinary model is designed to make care feel more collaborative, connected, and responsive to your individual needs.
Before Your First Appointment
You do not need to have everything figured out before you arrive. If you already have goals or questions in mind, you are welcome to bring them. If you do not, that’s okay too. Your practitioner can help you explore what feels important and identify what you hope to gain from working together.
It’s also completely normal to feel nervous before a first appointment. Reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, especially if you have experienced shame, judgment, or not feeling understood in other care settings. Valeo is committed to providing a respectful, non-judgmental space where you can be heard, understood, and supported.
What to Expect
Your First Psychology, Nutrition, or Movement Appointment
Your first appointment is a chance to begin getting to know one another. Your practitioner may ask about what brought you to Valeo, what has been difficult lately, your hopes for support, and any relevant experiences or context you would like to share.
There is no expectation that you will disclose everything at once. You can move at a pace that feels manageable, and you are always welcome to ask questions or let your practitioner know what would help you feel more comfortable.
Finding the right fit is an important part of meaningful care. A strong working relationship between a client and a practitioner can help create a space where people feel comfortable, understood, and supported. If, after connecting, it doesn’t feel like the right fit, or if you’re looking for a service we don’t offer, we will do our best to help direct you toward another appropriate option.
You don’t need to know exactly what you need before reaching out. Whether you are looking for one service or wondering if several types of support may be helpful, we are here to help you find a place to begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my insurance?
We can directly bill many insurance providers. Coverage and direct billing options can vary by practitioner and plan, so please contact us before your appointment if you have questions about insurance or reimbursement.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to book with Valeo. You are welcome to contact us directly to arrange a consultation.
What if I am not sure which practitioner or service is right for me?
That is completely okay. A consultation is a good place to start. We can talk through what you’re looking for and help you identify a practitioner or service that may be a good fit.
What if I am not a good fit with my practitioner?
No offence taken. Finding the right practitioner is important, and sometimes a different person, approach, or service is a better match. If that happens, we will do our best to help you explore other options.
Is virtual care as effective as in-person care?
For many people, yes. Virtual appointments are still face-to-face and can support a strong, meaningful therapeutic relationship. They can also make care more accessible and convenient, particularly for people who feel more comfortable at home or have barriers to travelling to an office.
